Best Remedies for Motion Sickness - Preppers Survive

On February 8, 2016, my husband and I departed on cruise to the Caribbean.  We were lucky that our ship was not affected by the hurricane.  However, the first night on the cruise the water was very choppy and many passengers started feeling the effects of motion sickness.  I have a tendency to get motion sick on planes, ferries, cruises, and kayaking in the open oceanso I brought several items to try.  Here is the best remedies for motion sickness that worked for me.BEST REMEDIES FOR MOTION SICKNESS

Remedies that Worked for Me

1.  Essential Oil Blend – On the plane ride to and from Florida and on the ferry to port I use MotionEaze Sickness Relief which is a blend of essential oils.  It has Lavender, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Frankincense, Chamomile, and Myrrh.  I get anxious in loud crowded places.  Not only did it keep me from getting motion sickness on the plane it also helped keep my anxiety in check.  The smell was soothing which had a calming effect on me and helped alleviate headaches.  I now carry this oil with me everywhere!Best Remedies for Motion Sickness - Preppers Survive

2.  Medicine – On this trip I learned that motion sickness medicine works best if taken the day before the start of your trip and then each day on your trip.  I’ve used several brands over the years but tried a different over-the-counter one called Bonine on a recommendation.  It didn’t make me drowsy and I liked that it was a chewable.  When I am nauseated, it’s hard for me to swallow pills.   After about 24 hours of taking this once a day the trip was far more enjoyable and I didn’t have a problem with motion sickness the rest of the trip.

Several of our friends had a prescription motion sickness patch which worked great for them.  If you would like to learn more about the patch click here.  The next time I find myself looking forward to a boat adventure I’ll use Bonine again since it is more affordable than a doctor visit. Best Remedies for Motion Sickness - Preppers Survive

3.  A Green Apple and Ginger Ale – The first night out to sea was so rough that I left the dinning room as soon as the first course arrived.  I was hoping that the essential oils would be the only thing that I would need but unfortunately the rough sea had me hugging the toilet.  I learned the hard way that medicine takes some time to ease motion sickness.  Luckily, a bartender on the ship recommended eating a green apple and drinking a ginger ale.  This was helpful in settling my stomach enough to lay down.  However, the Bonine once it kicked in was the best option for me.Best Remedies for Motion Sickness - Preppers Survive

Remedies that Didn’t Make the Cut

1. Acupressure Wristbands – I have bought these for all three of the cruises I’ve been on in the hopes that I will not need to take medicine.  I dislike taking medicine!  However, they just didn’t provide me relief.  I tried them the first night and did not use them again the rest of the trip.

2. Ginger Candy – I love this candy for it’s spicy hotness!  It just doesn’t seem to help with the nausea for very long.
