Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions for Preppers

New Year's Resolutions for Preppers

For the last week, I’ve been asking in several online Prepper groups “Do you have a New Year’s resolution regarding emergency preparedness or self reliance”?  The responses varied and some were quite surprising.  Here are the top ten generalized New Year’s resolutions for Preppers in order:

  1. Money – build up a savings account, increase cash reserves, lower debt
  2. Ammo & Guns – get more ammo, reload, diversify gun collection
  3. Preparedness Bag – add final missing items to bug out bag, improve everyday carry (EDC), and/or compile a REAL get home bag
  4. Education – develop a new preparedness/survival skill, read a new preparedness/survival book, attend a Prepper fair, complete a preparedness/survival course, get CPR certified, go back to college
  5. Food & Water Storageincrease food or water storage, canning, gardening, planting fruit trees, building a green house, exploring water retention, getting a pond, purchase a dehydrator
  6. Work on a Supplies List –  Prepper Supplies Checklist
  7. Physical Fitness – get fit, increase endurance, practice hiking long trips with bug out bag
  8. First-aid Supplies – create a serious home first-aid kit, add to bug out bag first-aid kit, add antibiotics
  9. Off-grid – explore simple off-grid options, get a generator, practice living off-grid
  10. Bug Out Location  determine a bug out location, buy a plot of land, set-up plans with out of state family members

The most daunting response: “Starting again from scratch”.

The most unique response: “Build a forge to melt aluminum cans”.
